Experience Director and Designer
I led the redesign process for Ryder’s Used Vehicle Sales, the largest marketplace for used trucks, long-haul trailers and specialized transportation equipment in the world. As the largest provider of these types of used vehicles, customers were choosing Ryder because they had the most inventory but the experience wasn’t necessarily satisfying. Ryder realized they needed to modernize the experience because of competitors increasingly moving into the space and the state of disruption within the transportation space.
Before putting pen to paper I conducted 100s of hours of customer interviews to determine how best to meet the needs of this specialized customer. Using this information I determined feature and functionality elements that would be needed to make the experience more satisfying. This went into developing detailed wireframes and functional specifications to guide the design and development team. Finally, I worked closely with the design to team to create a simple, modern experience.
The result is a fully responsive experience that allows users to quickly find the vehicles they need using intuitive facets, filtering a sorting. In addition, we created a truck wizard to help consumers figure out what type of vehicle would suit their needs.
